Kachelo Demonstration Garden (Documentary)

Kachelo Demonstration Garden is part of the Sustainable Livelihoods Enhancement Program to promote sustainable agricultural practices and empower our communities. This initiative lays the groundwork for a future where our communities can thrive through said farming practices.

What began as a small demonstration plot is quickly becoming a thriving agricultural hub. The crops included—cabbage, lettuce, spinach, spring onions, tomatoes, and rape—are more than just produce; they are part of a sustainable livelihood for six community members selected for training in crop management and enterprise development.

Our focus goes beyond agriculture, by enhancing and training community members with essential business skills, such as records management, financial literacy, and income diversification. The community trainees are trained on how to use climate smart agriculture practices to increase productivity but more importantly to ensure sustainable management of soils and the environment and gain skills to build their entrepreneurship acumen. It’s also worth noting that the impact of Kachelo Gardens extends to the Mingomba’s site canteen ‘Chalco Cantina’, where the vegetables grown are supplied and used to prepare meals for staff members.
